“Together, as one people, as brothers and sisters, let us walk towards God and love one another.” —Pope Leo XIV, Homily at Mass for the Beginning of his Pontificate, May 18, 2025
June 18, 2026
My dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
On the weekend of June 28 our diocese will participate in the global Peter’s Pence Collection. This annual collection provides essential support for the Holy See’s activities and helps Pope Leo XIV assist the victims of war, oppression, and natural disaster around the world.
The collection has ancient roots that reach back to apostolic times. The early Christians provided material support so that the apostles—those preaching the Gospel—could distribute to those in need (see Acts 4:34-35, 11:29). For centuries, Catholics have expressed our unity with the Pope by giving to the Peter’s Pence Collection, which supports his mission to proclaim Christ’s message of unity and peace with the world.
This tangible expression of unity with the Holy Father has a dual purpose set by the Holy See: to support the Holy Father’s mission, which extends throughout the entire world, from the proclamation of the Gospel to the promotion of integral human development, education, peace, and brotherhood among peoples: thanks also to the many activities of service carried out by the dicasteries and bodies of the Holy See that assist him every day. It also supports the numerous charitable works assisting people and families in difficulty, populations afflicted by natural disasters and wars, or who are in need of humanitarian assistance or support for development.
I invite you to join with our brothers and sisters in faith from around the globe to help our Holy Father in his charitable outreach. Thank you for prayerfully considering a donation to this year’s collection as an act of hope and charity.
With every prayerful best wish, I remain,
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Most Reverend Robert J. McManus Bishop of Worcester
